Welcome April Cheadle

We are excited to welcome our new head coach, April Cheadle, for the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Masters Swim Team.

  April Cheadle


April grew up on an apple orchard in Eastern Washington for the first 15 years of her life. She graduated from Eastmont High School. She started competing in swimming at age 14 and competed all the way through college for the University of Washington. Her specialty strokes were long distance free style and the Individual Medley. In college she swam the 800 Free Relay at the NCAA division I level.


April has been coaching for 10 years which has included club, high school and college level. In addition to swimming and coaching, April buys, sells and collects antiques.


She also has an M&M fetish.

We'd like to give special thanks to everyone who has helped in the hiring process. This is includes John DeMeyer and Jamie Whitney of Park and Rec., Rick Stafford, Julie Shryock and Allison Craig of BAM swim team. Also a big thank you goes to our interim coaches Rick Stafford, Kate Carr, Allan Thorpe, Tamara Tulou, John Keppeler, and Barney Voegtlen for their hard work and dedication to providing a smooth transition. Lynne Gallivan, Jay Stemmler, Allan Thorpe, Rita Belserene and Kate Carr of the BAM Booster Club also deserve a thank you for all their help and support during this time.

 

February Fitness Challenge Results

Congratulations to team BAM! We moved from third place to second place this year. Thirty three BAM swimmers participated and we posted a total of 2,0057,150 yards for an average of oveer 35 miles per swimmer. Congratulations especially to Heather Adkins-Narte who topped our team yards with 300,000 for the month!.

Congratulations to Team No Limits!
 

On Saturday September 12, five members of "Team No Limits" , comprised of members of the Bainbridge Aquatics Master's Club, with coach Lynn Wells, swam 2 miles in Lake Washington to raise funds for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Team No Limits was recognized as one of the 3 top fundraisers for the first Seattle area Swim Across America event, raising $12,000. The team captain, Dr. Linda Warren, was the top fund raiser for the event.


Linda Warren, a pediatrician with Bainbridge Pediatrics swam in memory of her former patient Faith Laird. Faith was a member of the Bainbridge Island Swim Club for most of her short life. She lost her struggle against cancer last year at the age of 17. Beth Shipley,
Linda's sister, swam in honor of her childhood friend Ann MacEslin Stearns. Jan Ringo, Julie Shyrock and Lynne Gallivan swam to honor their many friends and family members who have had cancer, Jan Ringo swan especially for her friend, Lynn Sinclair and in memory of her Mom, Bobbie Martin.
